EVERYTHING RUSH Glossary of Terms
Active - Member of the sorority. An Active member has gone through the rush and pledge process and has been initiated.
Basileus - The most high leaders of an organization. Supreme Basileus [President] - Grand Basileus [Vice Presidents / 1st and 2nd].
Big Sister - Someone who has already pledged and crossed into Sisterhood. She represents the organization as an active member. Every rushee / pledgee is assigned a Big Sister.
Cut - ("to be cut") You are not invited after the rush period to join the sorority.
De-pledging - To decide to drop out of a sorority after having accepted an invitation to join. Your initiation fee in non-refundable. You must return all paraphernalia to the organization if applicable.
Dry Rush - No alcohol allowed at all...for any functions.
Early Invitation - Being offered an invitation to join prior to week 5 of the rush period.
Formal Functions - Functions that are scheduled by National Headquarters, not a local chapter.
Hazing - Being forced to do things that are against your will, and violate you as a human being. Hazing is illegal.
Informal Functions - Functions that are scheduled by local chapters with direct supervision of National Headquarters. National will only need to approve these functions prior to the event taking place.
